<p>This subject critically examines Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, perspectives, and frameworks that inform culturally responsive practice. It prepares First Nations and non-First Nations students to engage in culturally responsive, safe, and ethically grounded practice with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities. Through critical analysis and synthesis, students engage with the complex historical and contemporary relationships between social work and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including the impacts of colonisation, policy, and institutional practices. The subject foregrounds Indigenous perspectives in analysing social structures, systemic inequities, and ongoing injustices, and supports students to integrate this knowledge into context-responsive, decolonising approaches to practice.</p>

Critically evaluate and apply  culturally responsive and ethically grounded skills and knowledge for working respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

Demonstrate advanced critical self-reflection on positionality, power, and privilege in professional practice, and apply this reflexivity to support culturally safe engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

Critically analyse and articulate the diversity of histories, cultures, and knowledges of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and integrate this understanding into professional practice.
