In this subject, students will critically analyse the influence of social, cultural and institutional environments on occupational possibilities, participation and performance for individuals, families, groups, communities and populations. They will then apply this knowledge to explore respectful and collaborative occupational therapy practice approaches that promote the development of inclusive social, cultural and institutional environments. Throughout this subject, students will be encouraged to adopt justice, equity and rights-based practice lenses to support critical reflection on historical and contemporary occupational therapy practice and envision opportunities for practice change.

Critically examine occupational therapy practice models and practice approaches in relation to working with individuals, families, groups, communities and populations. 

Demonstrate respect and professionalism in an occupational therapy practice context.   

Critically analyse the relationships between social, cultural and institutional environments and occupational possibilities, participation and performance. 

Critically reflect on the way in which their own social, cultural and institutional environments may influence their perceptions of occupation, occupational participation and, in turn, occupational therapy practice. 

Examine strategies for seeking understanding about social, cultural and institutional environments as needed to support informed clinical reasoning, and authentically collaborative practice.
