The diversity of microorganisms found in the natural environment and how the body interacts with these microorganisms is studied. The subject then introduces healthcare related microbiology and some of the major pathogens which invade the body to cause disease and illness. The immune system, inflammation and issues of immune deficiency are also addressed. Finally, the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics are explained.
