This subject will address the mechanisms of disease processes. The general principles of pathobiology are covered with particular reference to the changes at the level of cells, tissues and organs. Students will also gain skills at gross tissue description, tissue preservation, cutting and staining techniques.

Describe and compare the difference between cell degeneration, death and other pathologies at the cellular level, and the mechanisms by which cells adapt to an altered extracellular environment

Explain the procedures routinely used in diagnostic pathology

Compare and contrast normal histology and haematology with cellular changes and responses to a range of pathological conditions such as necrosis, inflammation, haemostasis, and neoplasia

Critically evaluate the quality of pathological specimens and apply knowledge gained in this subject to solve simple biomedical case studies
