Critical appraisal OR creative work and exegesis

This subject explores literal and conceptual landscapes in literary and screen texts that evoke haunting, decay/decadence, transcendence, esoterism, monstrousness, or the fantastic. In engaging with the set texts, students will gain knowledge of the literary and screen traditions in which the set texts emerge, including, but not limited to: European Romanticism, the Gothic, Southern Gothic, American transcendentalism, Surrealism, Australian Gothic, and ecopoetics. Assessment offers scope for critical and/or creative responses to the set texts.
