ED2193 - Mathematics Education for Primary School 1

The subject examines current national and state curriculum frameworks and policies to develop pre-service teachers&#39; professional knowledge and competencies to effectively and equitably teach mathematics and numeracy to diverse young children (from birth to 8 years). Upon completion of this subject, pre-service teachers will develop mathematical and pedagogical content knowledge; an appreciation of ICT tools to facilitate and showcase learning; and competencies to effectively develop positive dispositions towards numeracy to young children in 21st-century classrooms. Pre-service teachers will demonstrate an understanding of a range of contemporary and research-informed pedagogies and assessment practices for teaching mathematics and numeracy, and the use of evidence to inform pedagogical decision-making through differentiated instruction.

Create positive learning environment for effective learning and teaching of mathematics and numeracy for young children

Apply mathematics curriculum, assessment and reporting knowledge to design learning sequences and lesson plans for young children that integrate a range of teaching strategies, resources and ICTs

Apply knowledge of the learning processes used by young children of different socio- cultural backgrounds in learning mathematics and numeracy

Apply the content and characteristics of developmentally-appropriate and socially-just mathematics and numeracy curricula for young children using the Early Years Learning Framework, the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline and the F- 3 Australian Curriculum: Mathematics
