Structure

This course is accredited by the Australian Medical Council (AMC). Students enrolled in this degree will be registered with the Medical Board of Australia through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) for the duration of their program of study or until they are no longer enrolled. Graduates will be eligible to apply for professional registration with the Medical Board of Australia through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Practice culturally and contextually appropriate health care for rural, remote, tropical and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations

Self-evaluate their professional practice and demonstrate self-directed learning and contribution to the professional education of peers and junior colleagues

Evaluate the complexities of health, health care delivery and health careers in rural and remote communities

Integrate and apply coherent and advanced knowledge, skills and attitudes required to commence internship at any Australasian hospital

Demonstrate a community health orientation and advocacy skills to achieve improved health care outcomes, particularly in underserved populations

Demonstrate and apply literace, numeracy and communication skills appropriate to professional practice

Demonstrate knowledge and skills in quantitative and/or qualitative research approaches through critical analysis, evaluation and application of the relevant approach.

Demonstrate and apply the principles of ethical, professional and legal dimensions of practice

Current enrolment in Year 5 of the James Cook University Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery pass degree (honours study will be part-time and concurrent with pass degree), and achievement of a minimum grade point average of 5.0 (i.e. credit average) in each of the years 2, 3 and 4 of the MBBS course (excluding year 3 selective subject).
